Potential Collision Repair Damages From A Side-Impact Crash

Blog

When you think of an auto collision, you likely think of front-end or rear-end collision damage. Side-impact collisions are another type of collision that can occur. They are often referred to as T-bone accidents. These accidents can cause significant damage. Sometimes the damages can be repaired, and there are a number of factors that are used by auto body repair shops to determine whether it is possible.

Many drivers have a connection with their vehicles and do not like the idea of a classification of a totaled-out vehicle, but safety is paramount for repair technicians. Sometimes the final decision about repairing or totaling a vehicle comes from an insurance company that is unwilling to pay more for repairs than a vehicle is worth. The following points identify a few damages that can occur in a side-impact collision.

Door Panel Damage

This is one of the first things noted in a side-impact collision. The force from the striking vehicle makes contact with the other vehicle to form a "T" shape that is similar to how the bone in a T-bone steak looks. The door panels get bent and usually to the extent that replacement doors will need to be installed. The intensity of the impact and whether or not all parts of a damaged door are functional will determine if doors can be repaired. Some doors get knocked out of alignment. Critical window operations and door latching may also be hindered by the impact. Some dents can be fixed using auto repair. Auto technicians inspect and determine whether a safe and seamless restoration is possible.

Frame Damage

It is possible to have damaged door panels but have an intact frame or a frame with minor damage. A solid frame is required for safely operating a vehicle. Whether a collision repair is possible will depend on the extent of the damage. Sometimes repair technicians can use techniques such as soldering or welding to bind and reinforce pieces together. They may also use advanced equipment to straighten bent frames.

Broken Glass

Vehicles have several areas that are made of glass even though you might be thinking about the windows. This type of collision will likely have broken side window auto glass and will likely include damage to the front and rear windshields due to the impact. Some modern vehicles have sensors located in the windshields. These can get damaged in collisions even if the glass appears intact. An auto body repair shop can check all points to ensure functionality and will advise a repair or replacement.

A New Look

When I graduated from college, I was able to purchase my first car. After much searching for the perfect vehicle, I selected a white sedan. This car has always been special to me because I earned the money to pay for it by myself. I even still own it. However, because it’s 13 years old now, it really needs to be painted. Instead of hiring someone to repaint it white, I’m considering trying something different. I would like to have a professional paint it either black or silver. On this blog, you will discover how to give an older vehicle a new look by hiring someone to paint it a different color.
