Exposing Two Myths about Auto Body Repairs

Blog

When your car suffers body damage, you will need to have this issue addressed before it worsens. This is particularly true for body damage that involves the paint or clearcoat because these layers are responsible for keeping moisture away from the surface of the car. Unfortunately, believing the following two myths about auto body repairs can make the repair process more stressful and confusing than it needs to be.

Myth: A Damaged Frame Means Your Car Is Always Totaled

It is relatively common for the frame of a car to be damaged during an accident. Unfortunately, many people assume that any frame damage to their car will mean the vehicle is ruined. While this is certainly true with older cars, it is important to note that new models are usually made with a frame that is designed to be repairable. These frames are built in a series of sections, and this allows damaged areas of the frame to be easily removed.

Regretfully, not every car is built with this type of frame, and it can be extremely difficult for people to tell whether their car has it or not. Typically, you can locate this information in your owner's manual, but if it does not contain this section or if you have lost your original manual, an auto body repair technician will be able to look up whether your car was made using a sectioned frame.

Myth: The Insurance Company Chooses the Repair Shop

Another common notion about auto body repairs is that the insurance company will be able to dictate where you take your car to have it repaired. Fortunately, the law recognizes that individuals have the right to choose any repair shop that they want to. This will ensure that you always have a professional that you are comfortable with working on your car.

However, it should be noted that the insurance company can withhold certain benefits from those that use out-of-network repair providers. Most insurance companies will provide a comprehensive warranty on the work done by their in-network repair providers, but they can withhold this from individuals that use service providers that are not authorized by the insurance company.

It doesn't have to be an intimidating process to get your vehicle's dented or smashed frame repaired. If you have further questions, concerns, or needs, consider contacting a professional at a business such as Precision Auto Body of Plano.

A New Look

When I graduated from college, I was able to purchase my first car. After much searching for the perfect vehicle, I selected a white sedan. This car has always been special to me because I earned the money to pay for it by myself. I even still own it. However, because it’s 13 years old now, it really needs to be painted. Instead of hiring someone to repaint it white, I’m considering trying something different. I would like to have a professional paint it either black or silver. On this blog, you will discover how to give an older vehicle a new look by hiring someone to paint it a different color.
