Remove An Unsightly Dent From Your Recreational Vehicle's Roof

Blog

If a tree limb fell onto your recreational vehicle's roof and caused an unsightly dent to appear, remove it by trying one of the following methods. Each process will help you restore your vehicle's body to its original shape and does not require any experience to complete:

Rubber Mallet And Wood Block

Climb up the side of your vehicle to view the location of the dent. Get inside of your vehicle and place a wood block underneath the damaged area. If your vehicle has a high ceiling, you may need to stand on a step stool in order to reach the ceiling. Firmly, strike the block with a rubber mallet.

Check the progress that is being made by getting out of your vehicle and viewing the roof. If you have a friend who can assist you, have them monitor the progress that is being made while you are inside your vehicle.

Hot And Cold Air

Heat up the dented area for a couple minutes  with a hair dryer that is adjusted to a high setting. Hold the hair dryer a few inches away from your vehicle's roof. The heat will cause the dented metal to expand. Follow up by spraying the dented section with a can of compressed air. The rapid change in temperature will help the metal expand faster. Continue alternating with the hair dryer and the compressed air until the dent is no longer visible.

Plunger

Form a seal over the damaged area with a hand plunger. Moisten the end that contains the suction cup with water before pressing it onto the damaged area. Push down firmly until the plunger is secure. Place both hands on the handle and pull the plunger upwards. Continue attaching the plunger to the roof and pulling it off until the metal pops back into shape.

Primer And Paint

Minor dents may not cause the paint to chip on your vehicle. If the damage was more extensive, you can sand, prime, and repaint the chipped section after the dent is removed. Use a hand sander and low grit paper to give the roof a smooth surface. Spray a coat of primer over the sanded surface. Apply touch up paint with a small brush, dabbing it onto the areas that are missing paint. Once the paint has dried, your vehicle will be restored to its original condition.

You can prevent your vehicle from becoming dented in the future by parking away from trees that have low lying branches. Place a cover over your vehicle during inclement weather or when you are not going to be traveling for an extended amount of time. A New Look

When I graduated from college, I was able to purchase my first car. After much searching for the perfect vehicle, I selected a white sedan. This car has always been special to me because I earned the money to pay for it by myself. I even still own it. However, because it’s 13 years old now, it really needs to be painted. Instead of hiring someone to repaint it white, I’m considering trying something different. I would like to have a professional paint it either black or silver. On this blog, you will discover how to give an older vehicle a new look by hiring someone to paint it a different color.
