4 Ways to Remove a Dent in a Car Door

Blog

If you were recently in a minor vehicle accident, you might not have had severe damage, but little dings in your car door are common. It only takes a small amount of impact to cause a dent, but luckily, small dings are easy to remove. Consider using one of the following four methods for removing the dent from your car door.

Dry Ice

The first method to remove a dent in your car door is also one of the easiest methods to use, which is dry ice. To use dry ice, you will also need a hair dryer. Plug the hair dryer in, using an extension cord so it reaches your car. Turn on the hair dryer and point it at the dent to heat up the area.

Make sure you wear protective gloves before handling the dry ice. Grab the dry ice carefully and hold it against the dent for several seconds. Place it on the dent once again, and remove it after several seconds. Keep repeating this process until the dent starts popping out.

Suction Cup

There are also suction cup kits sold in auto supply stores that help with DIY dent removal jobs. The kit will come with detailed instructions on how to use it properly. You should make sure the car door is clean and free of debris before you attempt to use this, otherwise the suction cups won't stick very well.

You stick the suction cup apparatus over the dent, then insert another component that pulls out the dent from the car door. The great thing about this option is that it doesn't usually scratch the paint.

Tapping

One of the better options if you plan to remove a dent on your own is the tapping method. This is more of an old-fashioned method for removing dents, and is usually good for dents of different sizes. With tapping, you will take a block of wood about the size of the dent and wrap it in a towel. Place the wood on the side of the car door if the dent points inward, then tap the wood with the rubber mallet. This should be just enough force to start working out the dent.

Paintless Dent Repair

The final method is something a professional auto body shop can do for you. It is more expensive, but your car will have a flawless finished result. Auto body shops like Mach 1 Body Shop Inc use professional-grade tools to work out a dent in a car door without disturbing the paint.

A New Look

When I graduated from college, I was able to purchase my first car. After much searching for the perfect vehicle, I selected a white sedan. This car has always been special to me because I earned the money to pay for it by myself. I even still own it. However, because it’s 13 years old now, it really needs to be painted. Instead of hiring someone to repaint it white, I’m considering trying something different. I would like to have a professional paint it either black or silver. On this blog, you will discover how to give an older vehicle a new look by hiring someone to paint it a different color.
